We are avid gardeners in Texas and spend a lot of time in the garden. Growing up in India, I used to help my dad in his garden and he would point out all the different plants and their benefits. We used leaves, and roots and barks to heal most ailments the Ayurvedic way. My grandma used to make me collect all the herbs and flowers to make her home made skin care products. Now when I look back, she did not have a single gray hair and her skin was very supple.
Our garden has flourished and we end up with more produce than we can consume, even after giving them away, so being a Chemical Engineer, I researched into using my healthy harvest to make soaps and other beauty products. Since I was making it for my family, I used the best oils, palm free, fresh produce and no added artificial colors or fragrances.
Turmeric has long been a natural remedy in Eastern culture so I looked up the benefits of using turmeric for the skin and found that this sunset-yellow spice, scientifically known as Curcuma longa, has anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and antioxidant properties. So I went and dug up some turmeric from my yard, infused my oil with it, soaked almonds to make almond milk and made my first bar of turmeric and almond milk soap. Then I looked into moringa, papaya, carrots, aloe, blueberry, cucumber, and more natural ingredients and found that these all had great natural benefits.
I didn’t want to use additional fragrances so I infused my oils with rosemary, eucalyptus, lavender, bay leaves, tea tree, lemon grass, mint, and tulsi after researching into what they can do for your skin. With my background, I was able to figure out how the oils worked and how to put them together. It was time consuming and laborious work so I enlisted my husband and kids.
We came up with the name Sasyam beauty. Sasyam means plant in Sanskrit, and we are using our harvest to produce healthy products. Our logo is a hand in Prithvi Mudra, holding a plant. The five leaves of the plant represent the five elements of nature, earth, water, fire, wind and space. Prithvi Mudra is an earth centered hand position in Yoga that activates the root chakra. In Yoga, different poses and mudras activate different parts of the brain and your glands, directing them to perform more effectively. The Prithvi mudra uses the earth element to bring a natural glow to the skin, relax the mind when you feel stressed, boost self confidence, and increase mental resilience. Our logo is a reflection of these sentiments. By following the teachings of Ayurveda and yoga and creating products straight from our garden, we hope to bring the ancient traditions of my home county of India to you.
Since all our products are handmade with love we sometimes require a minimum of three weeks lead time. We use natural biodegradable products as much as possible in our packaging. All our soap orders come with a soap bag made of banana fiber. It acts as an exfoliant and it can be used to hang the soap to dry between use. I hope you enjoy our premium, vegan, natural products as much as we enjoyed making them.
